The Child Abuse & Neglect Council encourages maximum involvement of volunteers. Volunteers are essential participants in our mission and have always played an important role in the development of this organization. We need our volunteers not only to supplement our paid staff but to bring creativity and vitality that is necessary for the growth of our organization. We look forward to having you join our team.

Who can volunteer?
Anyone interested in being the well-being of children in Saginaw County is invited to share their capabilities, skills and talents. Volunteers range in age and educational levels and may come to us as individuals and community service groups.

Time Commitment
Volunteer hours vary according to availability and interest and the varying needs of the CAN Council. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. However due to special events and activities, opportunities are generally available during the evenings and weekends.

How do I become a Volunteer
Each volunteer is required to complete a volunteer application and have a clean criminal records check prior to a volunteer interview. The interview will determine volunteer interests and skills, availability and inform volunteers of agency needs.

Orientation and Training
All volunteers receive an orientation which includes information about the programs and services of the Child Abuse and Neglect Council, our policies and procedures for volunteer and requirements for the position they are accepting and a tour of the facilities. Individual training is provided on a one-to-one basis by the staff coordinator of a specific CAN Council program.

Volunteer Opportunities
There are several areas where volunteers are needed and utilized within the CAN Council, including:

  • Fundraising Activities/Events
  • Office Assistance
  • Community/Public Awareness Events
  • Program Assistance
  • Council Representatives
  • Committee Members
  • Internship Programs
